Walking Writers Podcast-Episode 18: Finding Your Vibe

Listen Later

Hello Walking Writers, This is a quick update to let you know I haven't forgot about you or completely ditched my blog and podcast. I know everyone has busy lives so I will keep this post short and sweet to the best of my ability. Over the past few weeks I have pushed myself harder to work on my writing outside of the blog and podcast. Although I love doing both, the main reason I am here is to tell you about the things I experience while establish myself as a professional writer. Over the last year since graduation, my word count has fallen and almost become non-existent with my fictional writing work. Maybe it is all for a reason as I have mentioned before on the podcast, if you are keeping up with me there as well. I am starting to find the flow again, although it isn't at the output as I did when in school, I am keeping up with a discipline and remaining focused on the overall agenda to output work that people would like to buy and experience stories from my voice. Expanding the writing routine into my schedule, I have found little time to get to the networking aspect as to posting on this blog and the podcast. I want to let it be known that I still want to help others with their writing journey as I still need help with mine. I have joined several writing communities over the last several months and have staked out to see how I can contribute to the community as well as finding ways I can get positive feedback in return. It is important to find a writing community as a novice writer. When you find a good one filled with good people willing to take time out of their busy writing schedule to help you, consider yourself a lucky person. Since it's national poetry month I wanted to share with you that I am reading more poetry and I also been dabbling in writing poetry myself. I wish I could bring myself to write a poem a day. I think that would be a great goal to have by the end of the month. I would have thirty poems to edit and hone into something worth keeping or publishing. Maybe narrowing them down to a few great ones and maybe ten or so good ones. Maybe this will be a goal to set for myself in the future, I'm sure the poets reading this now would say if it were only that easy. I'm no poet and I also don't know much about it so to say that I'm going to write one every day that was worth anything is like saying I could contribute to brain surgery when I don't have any schooling or knowledge about it. I believe it was Ernest Hemingway that had a quote similar to something like that. Believe it or not I started writing this post about a week ago and I intended to publish it this past weekend, but you know how it goes writers. I have hopes that my next blog or podcast won't be so stretched out but April is a busy month full of family birthdays and other life fun filled tricks up April's sleeve. Do yourself a favor this week and push yourself to create a writing schedule and try sticking to it. Of you can't, find another time or find some community to help you drive yourself to committing time to yourself and your writing. I hope you have a great week and I'll see you on the trail.
