Jonah told what to do

Call out to Nineveh
City Described as a Great City
The city’s evil has come before the LORD
Johah’s Response - Disobedience
Rose to flee to Tarshish
Flee from the presence of the LORD
Carried out his plan to flee
Went to Joppa
Found a Ship heading to Tarshish
Paid the fare
Went ‘Down’ into it
Re-emphasize - away from the presence of the LORD
27:33 Jonah 1 4-6
The LORD’s turn
But (thinking of Jonah’s But)
The Lord hurled a wind
Caused a mighty tempest
Severe enough to threaten the ship’s integrity
The Mariners were afraid
Cried out to their gods (little ‘g’)
They in turn hurl - to lessen the impact of the tempest
Jonah again messing up
All hand on deck, but you are asleep
Down again to the inner part
Confronted by the captain
The shade (Sleeper)
Call out to your God
Your God may respond (calling out to the others has not helped?)
36:33 Jonah 1 7-10
The Mariners are desperate
Recognize this must be supernatural (?)
Cast Lots (Throw Dice) - Who did it
They land on Jonah
Interrogation occurs
Jonah knows he was in the wrong and spills the beans
Tells them who he is (note their reaction)
Told the mariners that he is fleeing from the LORD
50:23 Jonah 1 11-16
Jonah tells them what to do
Pick Him up and hurl him overboard
The sea will quiet down for you
This great tempest is because of me
But (Nevertheless) - They ignored Jonah
Tried to row harder (really dig in) to get to shore
The Tempest grew worse (more and more tempestuous - like it got angry)
Mariners made a plea to the LORD
Let us not perish for this man’s life
We do not want his blood on our hands
You have done as it pleased you (this is your show)
Jonah goes overboard
Picked him up
Hurled him over the side
God hurled a wind
Mariners hurled cargo
Mariners hurled Jonah
The sea stopped raging
Mariners feared the LORD exceedingly
Mariners offered a sacrifice
Mariners made a vow

Into the Fish
God appointed a great fish
