Season 2 is still coming! Promise!

Navigating a faith change can be difficult for those choosing to change their belief systems. Madeline, as heard from previous episodes, bravely shares her story and gives me better perspective on how I  can be a better friend and show up for loved ones who go through similar experiences. 

Talking about faith changes is important to me because there is often pain involved. Brene Brown said, "My mom taught us to never look away from people's pain. The lesson was simple. Don't look away. Don't look down. Don't pretend to not see hurt. Look people in the eye. Even when their pain is overwhelming. And when you're in pain, find the people who can look you in the eye. We need to know we're not alone -- especially when we're hurting."

The truth is faith institutions are run by human beings who need Jesus just as much as everyone else. We cannot assume an institution is immune to creating harm in anyway. It's important to look the pain in the eye, so that we can support, help, and change. Otherwise, by sweeping the pain under the rug and it only grows.  

This is a special episode to me I  hope you chose to listen to with an open heart and open mind. 

Ian Kahng is from the Seattle area and attended BYU where he found a love for positive psychology. His book, "Firmness of Mind", is "a collection of advice from professional psychologists on how the young members of the LDS Church can use the study of human happiness to live happier lives."

In this episode Ian divulges some of the great insights he's gained from is work in positive psychology including talking about the 5 spheres of happiness, managing vs. controlling thoughts, and the character of Christ.
