The first bit of changes to Time Warner following the merger with AT&T; have emerged, including a name change. Today's podcast covers that plus info on how the merger could change DC Films and Aquaman and Wonder Woman news.

Time Warner has changed the company name to WarnerMedia

The Hollywood Reporter interview with AT&T; CEO John Stankey

Initial changes include redundant departments (accounting, legal, etc.); not Warner Bros., HBO, etc.

Asked about DC movies - “First of all, I think the performance [of DC movies] over the past year and a half is trending the right direction in terms of the quality of the product and how the franchise is being managed. So hats off to Kevin [Tsujihara] and the team around getting the momentum headed the right direction. Obviously, there were some public things that have occurred over the last couple of weeks [Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns, who ran DC Entertainment, both stepped down] that would indicate that some additional change is underway. My involvement in that is to make sure I support Kevin in getting the absolute best talent possible and we'll take that franchise to the next level. That's his set of decisions to make and his direction to go in.

"It's my job to facilitate, to make sure he has the full support of the corporation and getting that done.”

Warner Bros. film Chairmen Toby Emmerich interview with Entertainment Weekly on Aquaman

What excites him about Aquaman - “That it’s coming out this year.”

The date is because it is as soon as it could reasonably be finished

“Aquaman is a bit of a bridge movie yet there is still the connective tissue to the DC movies. But just like how [director Patty Jenkins] brought her own sensibility to Wonder Woman — yet it was very connected — that movie was very much a Patty Jenkins movie this is very much a James Wan movie.”

Credits Wan with both creating and improving franchises

On the tone appearing to be lighter than other DC movies - “I don’t think it was a reaction to what had come before. I think it was them being true to themselves.”

On the type of superhero films that succeed - “I think the good movies work better. Somebody once said the best business strategy in motion pictures in quality... [W]hat’s been proven the better the movie — particularly in the superhero genre — the better it performs.”
