the chinese connection is a reference to bruce lee's first major picture, the big boss, which is where he first debuts his style of martial arts choreography, taking from his experience in street fighting to create a faster, harder, more visceral action choreography than the wuxia and opera inspired contemporaries in hong kong, which relied on float-y action and musical rhythm (something you can see continued in the work of Jackie Chan, who was trained in the peking opera). the title is a riff on the french connection, starring gene hackman. however, due to a production error, until 2003, the title was switched with another of lee's films, the legendary "fists of fury," which has spawned several remakes and sequels. so if you are looking for a copy of lee's the big boss and the copy was released pre-2003, you have to get fists of fury, and vice versa if you are looking for fists of fury
