Compassion fatigue is defined as is a condition characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion leading to a diminished ability to empathize or feel compassion for others, often described as the negative cost of caring. It is common with professionals dealing with issues of trauma and stress in people’s lives. It is common with professionals in health care but also with people in the helping professionals. The constant bombardment of coping with individuals suffering in different aspects of life can take a toll on even the most resilient counselor or Social Worker. It can carry over in your own life with feelings of anger and sadness.
