For the Catholics she was Mother Mary (and still is), same for Robin Hood… but she goes back to prehistoric times, when there were no male deities, only the Goddess. The “White Goddess” has always been around, be it the apparitions of the Virgin Mary at Fatima (complete with UFO phenomena) or the spectral woman in white I saw floating across a lake at 2am when I was young.
