WCPT 820 Interview: Mark Ishaug of Thresholds

Listen Later

Richard is joined by Mark Ishaug, president and CEO of Thresholds, who discussed the organization's 65-year history of providing mental health and housing services to 10,000 people in Chicago. He highlighted the disproportionate impact of mental illness on underserved communities, exacerbated by poverty, lack of housing, and racial discrimination. Ishaug also expressed concern over potential federal cuts to Medicaid, which could affect almost 800,000 people in Illinois and threaten community mental health centers.

"I've always said that federal budgets are moral documents, and what came out of Washington, D.C., last week is nothing short of immoral," Ishaug told WCPT, referring to the budget blueprint bill the House passed along party lines in late February.  "We all have to band together throughout this country to literally fight with love and kindness and compassion," he said.
