Illinois state Rep. Norma Hernandez joins Richard to talk about her background, including her education in urban planning and public policy, her recent appointment as chair of the Illinois House Latinx Caucus, and the importance of community engagement, through initiatives like her youth council and participatory budgeting.

"I've done participatory budgeting across Chicago for about five years," Hernandez told WCPT. "I did it with aldermen, I did it with the city of Chicago during the COVID relief funds, where we did community engagement on the budget, and then I did it with CPS schools and helped write a curriculum for them on how to do participatory budgeting with young people."
