Psalm 122

Of all the Songs of the Ascents, Psalm 122 best deserves the title “a pilgrim song.” It describes the pilgrim’s destination, God’s holy city of Jerusalem. The pilgrims rejoiced to go up to the Lord’s house. There they could find peace and security both physically and spiritually.

We are also on a pilgrimage for peace like the Israelites who went up to Jerusalem. We go up to the Lord’s house to be filled with peace from the gospel message. We have our eyes set on our destination, God’s heavenly city of Jerusalem. There we can be at home, no longer wandering pilgrims, full of peace.
