When someone is truly rescued they feel a sense of great joy, gratitude and a desire to do likewise. There is relief from the despair they felt when they cried out for help. In my foolish youth, I spent time hitchhiking across Europe with little money and I felt despair a couple times. I was really at the end of my rope when I took a ferry from France to the east coast of England and found out my train pass wasn’t allowed in the United Kingdom. I knew I would now either have to hitchhike another 250 miles to my host home, or call my host family to rescue me. My pride blocked me from making the call. Looking back I see it would have been so much better to have called out for help.
In Proverbs 24 it says, “Rescue those being led away to death...”God is challenging us to rescue those who are lost and in need of salvation spiritually. Fortunately, when I finally hit my deepest moment of spiritual need, I did cry out. God was merciful and his people faithful. And I am grateful. Now, I want to do all I can to rescue others.
Those of us who are in Christ have all been rescued. Who better to join in the rescue operation of others, to reach our world, than you and I?
