19-year-old Reshma Bano Qureshi has made headlines globally after this acid attack survivor walked the ramp at the high profile New York Fashion Week. Reshma was only 17 when her face was disfigured by acid flung at her by her brother-in-law. She lost one eye in this assault. Speaking to NDTV from New York, Reshma said walking on the ramp was a statement to all women that beauty does not lie merely in how you look. The walk, she said, was her way of not only rewriting the rules of conventional beauty but also to tell acid attack victims that life is not over. Reshma has been campaigning to end the sale of acid in India which is still available for as little as Rs 25.
