We gotta talk about our guest!! We have a very special guest on this episode in honor of Latinx Heritage Month.
Odalys Jasmine is a master storyteller and proud first generation Hondureña/Catracha. She joins us on this episode to discuss Latinidad with Maya who is a first generation Dominican-American. Latinidad refers to the various attributes shared by Latin American people and their descendants. However, this is not inclusive of those who do not speak Spanish, those who identify first and foremost as Black, or the many Indigenous folx in Latin America who identify with their tribe and reject colonial borders. Jasmine and Maya discuss this concept as well as their unique perspectives as children of immigrants from two very underrepresented parts of Latin America - Central America and the Caribbean. Check out Jasmine's podcast Hella Latin@
Our second topic, another heavy hitter, is the N word. Why will this word forever be something we have to debate and discuss? We dive in to our own experiences with the word, how our generation perceives it, and how it changes with each generation.
This episode is the last full episode of this first series. Stay tuned for more episodes after a short break!
