We have all lived

through Halcyon days

brightening our lives

in so many ways

each precious moment

endlessly replays

lodged in our memories

forcing blues to stray

Tales of good times

now gone by

savored like fine wine,

tart and dry

sipped ever so slowly

in our minds

elating our souls in ways

words can’t define

That first taste of candy

back when you were a child

where your eyes popped wide

and your mouth was wowed

by the sugary bliss that

had graced your lips

bringing strong addictions

for each candy bar bit.

That first kiss you shared

with your first love so awkward

that the prettiest girl

oh, so eagerly offered

warm, wet lips colliding,

setting passions igniting

and that incredible rush

two feel when love is arriving

Hot, buttery Lobster

broken free from its shell

after endless cheap food

because your paycheck was hell

but you just got a raise

and you used it to pay

for the rarest of treats

after months of blaise.

Or when you hold your

newborn baby

a carbon copy of two

and that infant’s eyes

gaze curiously up at you

full of trust as you cradle

its new life so close

out of all of life’s moments

this one means the most.

it means the most

cause you've sired a life

that you'll treasure forever

both you and your wife

Life holds many surprises

in both large and small sizes

to release us from the tedium

of our compromises.

and the dates that life blessed us

and gently caressed us

with such joys unfamiliar

are fond thoughts that possess us.

All our tales of good times

now gone by will survive

and they help us to thrive

when our joys take a dive

Savored like fine wine, tart and dry

sipped ever so slowly in our minds

elating our souls in ways

no words can define

cause life is so fine

And long after we’re gone

those good times will live on

in the memories of our families

our children and friends

until we meet again

for many more good times
