What happens when you realize that even a successful corporate career may not give you the security you thought it would?

For Cameron Tope, that realization became the beginning of an entirely different journey.

Cameron moved to Houston as a petroleum engineer, working in an industry where careers could look incredibly secure — until oil prices, layoffs and uncertainty revealed another reality.

So he started looking for another way.

That search led him to real estate.

One property became another. Cameron eventually built a personal portfolio of more than 30 rental homes — and discovered that buying the property was only the beginning.

When he couldn't find property management that operated the way he believed an owner needed, he started managing the properties himself.

Other investors began asking him to manage theirs.

And that eventually became Emerson Property Management, which today manages approximately 300 rental properties in the Houston market, according to Cameron.
