Music can be a great way to promote the revitalization and sharing of heritage languages. This year’s annual Hakka Choir Competition will take place on May 24th and 25th at the Northern Miaoli Arts Center. The eighth iteration of the competition will include categories such as “general choir songs,” “folk songs,” and “modern a cappella.” The competition doesn’t just serve as a means of enjoying music, it is more so a means of exchanging and preserving culture. Competitors do not just study Hakka language and culture in preparation, they also meet with Hakka people from other areas, creating stronger bonds between the communities.
