We Love Public Schools FINAL

Listen Later

As long as most of us can remember going to school – specifically public school has always been a part of growing up. The idea of public school has been around for a long time. In fact, according to National Geographic Education, the first public school in America was started by the Puritans in New England in the 17th century. Boston Latin School was founded in 1635. The idea behind public schools was thought to be a remedy to rid society of its ills by educating children to fit their role in society.

Today, public education is the law. And while public education is still free – in 2022, over 2 million students dropped out of school (ages 16-24). Teachers are leaving in record numbers. They are overworked and underfunded. There is a blatant disrespect for the profession. But, there is some good in public schools. North Carolina has an entire campaign dedicated to uplifting public schools. It’s called the “We Love Pubic Schools” campaign.
