What is the US deterrence strategy toward China? The specific effort to deter China from using military force against Taiwan seems to be building, with President Biden even openly stating we would defend Taiwan if they are attacked but at the same time his administration insisted the US continues to follow the one China policy we previously agreed to. China has embarked on an effort to dramatically increase its land-based Inter-continental ballistic missile capabilities, with what appears to be a clear intent to match or exceed the US numbers. That would increase the complexity of our own nuclear deterrent strategy dramatically considering that our efforts in Ukraine have driven Russia closer to China and the Russian nuclear ICBM force is already our peer.
