The Black Gay Agenda

We Need That - We Need Black Queer Representation with Ronald Thomas Hinton (Episode 1)

Listen Later

The Black Gay Agenda is back with something new — our limited fall and winter series, We Need That — dropping on the 1st and 15th of every month to keep the conversation going between seasons.

In our debut episode, We Need Black Queer Representation, Micah and Alex sit down with Ronald Thomas Hinton — the Afro-Puerto Rican actor, writer, and creator of the acclaimed web series Natives. Together, they explore what it truly means to tell our own stories, the realities of growing up queer and creative in public housing, and why authentic representation matters more than ever.

Ronald opens up about his journey from New York’s Upper West Side to building Natives from the ground up, the importance of community-driven storytelling, and how his work reflects the joy, resilience, and nuance of Black queer life. Plus, the guys get into everything from the influence of Insecure and POSE, to independent filmmaking, and what it takes to sustain creative projects through community support.

This one’s for the dreamers, the disruptors, and everyone pushing the culture forward.Because when we tell our own stories — we shift the narrative.
