Who wins in a fight, Japanese beetles or video games? It’s close, but video games win. Michael clears the new dungeons in Destiny 2. Dennis keeps things interesting in Diablo IV by doing side quests. Dennis keeps his head above (and below!) water in Dave the Diver. Kyle gives us a recap on how awesome he is at SF6 and how awesome AEW: Fight Forever is. Dennis plays yet another swarm survior: Yet Another Zombie Survivors. Kyle spins the stacks of wax and takes your calls in Killer Frequency. Remnant II takes up most of Kyle’s weekend.

Our month was dominated by the Xbox Showcase and the Summer Game Fest; we go over our favorites. Dennis gets a new handheld and his first Windows machine: the ROG Ally from ASUS. Lilith always seems to be in another castle as Dennis and Kyle explore Sanctuary in Diablo IV. Kyle tries to scare Dennis talking about Layers of Fear (2023) and MADiSON. Dennis explores and cleans out the Halls of Torment. Running a sushi bar is not what Dennis expected to be doing in Dave the Diver. Kyle “grapples” with the ranked playlist in Street Fighter 6.

You’re probably here to listen to our thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but we played other games also. First, we talk about the PlayStation Showcase and their goofy “handheld”. Dennis finished DREDGE and returns to the mainland. Dennis skates into early access with Tape to Tape. Kyle “forces” his way through Jedi: Survivor before exploring the Tears of the Kingdom. Michael adjusts his build in Destiny 2. Dennis and Kyle enjoy their escape from HELL-A in Dead Island 2.

Fact: April showers have nothing to do with video games. What is XDefiant? Dennis didn’t know either but he had fun shooting Ubisoft characters. After playing the beta, Kyle predicts Diablo IV will be the best in the series. Michael plays Chaos Gate – DaemonHunters; it’s like X-COM but with huge characters. Dennis crashes on a planet in Songbringer and sails the seas to solve a mystery in DREDGE. A new segment of the podcast, “Kyle’s Kozy Remake Korner”, kicks off with RE4, RE2, and Dead Space remakes. Dennis hits the links again, this year with EA Sports PGA Tour. Find out if Michael is either “the anchor” or “an anchor” in his Destiny 2 group.

Games of 2023 have started coming out! We’ll go through what we’re looking forward to this year. Dennis is hip to the new hotness and starts playing Elden Ring. Bethesda/Tango Gameworks shadow drops Hi-Fi Rush and Kyle gets a couple hours in before the recording. Kyle goes back for another shot of Disco Elysium: The Final Cut – now with voice acting. Dennis goes though his recent round of swarm survivor games. Kyle skips every cut scene in Strangers of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins. Dennis makes matches in Devolver’s Tumble Time mobile game.

Another good year of gaming! We have our top 5s for 2022 but, we also played other games this month. Kyle takes orders from his weapons in High on Life. Soccer Story kicks sand in Dennis’s face. Michael protects mages to save the world in The Last Spell. Kyle gives his “put them on the box” reviews of Callisto Protocol and Marvel Midnight Suns. Dennis welcomes the waves of new “swarm survivor” games on the Steam Deck. Liquids are Kyle’s nemeses in Noita. Kyle confirms top-down horror survival is real deal in Darkwood.

The post 079: 2022 Games of the Year first appeared on We Played Some Games.
A busy gaming November is the excuse for this being late—plus, Dennis and Kyle got Steam Decks! Dennis and Kyle played a bunch of God of War: Ragnarok and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022). Kyle herded rats in A Plague Tale: Requiem. Dennis was glued to the Steam Deck playing Vampire Survivors, Brotato, and Soccer Story. Kyle explored the horror of Signalis and the strangeness of Control. Everyone have a Happy Holidays and we’ll see you at the end of December with our Games of the Year.

Lots of games this month! It’s probably easier to just list them than think of something funny to say. Dennis: Weird West, PGA Tour 2K23, and DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue. Michael: Iratus: Lord of the Dead, Inscryption, and Cult of the Lamb. Kyle: Overwatch 2, Splatoon 3, Prodeus, and Grounded. Thank the gods that next month will be slow. FFFFUUUUUAAAAAAHHHH!

Dennis and Kyle agree that Saints Row is a mess but, we’ll keep playing it. Dennis fights a toilet in Arcade Paradise. Kyle enjoys hacking anime souls in Soul Hackers 2. Micheal goes back to XCOM 2 on the Switch. Dennis breaks his clubs in Cursed to Golf. Kyle and Dennis handle dissenters a bit differently in Cult of the Lamb. Dennis and Kyle explore the big-little world in Tinykin. Dennis fails at properly explaining how the Playdate puzzle game, Skwish, works. (Ed: No, I listened back, I really did, so I included a GIF in the show notes.)
