Confessions and Ramblings of a Functioning Psychotic

We put the MEN in Mental

Listen Later

This is Ep. 21: We put the MEN in mental

The statistics are alarming.  Over 6 million men suffer from depression.  Males die by suicide at four times the rate of females with nearly 80% of all suicides being men.  Suicide rates have gradually risen among black and hispanic adults while steadily dropping for white adults.

Parrish has special guest "Rico" back in studio to discuss mental health and the stigma around men discussing it.  Most times men will not talk about any mental anguish or issues they are experiencing because they are taught to always be strong and to never be vunerable.  These leads to disproportionate numbers of anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and suicide among men over women.  Rico had a normal, uneventful childhood; has a lot of friends; is very well-loved; and has a great job and family life- but not everything is as good as it seems and all of these positive environmental factors do not guarantee stable mental health.

There is no shame in discussing mental health and, in fact, it would be beneficial to all men and society as a whole.  Start the journey today with this first episode about men and mental health that Confessions has ever done with Parrish, special guest "Rico" and sound engineer Oz!
