Eph 4:14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.We need to serve Each other. That’s part of what being a Christian is. Here’s the hard part of a “church” There’s really parts of it that feel very transactional. Its one of the weirdest entities that exist and its unlike anything else on this planet. None of us- not one of us who are Christians are supposed to just be consumers- None. Everyone is supposed to play some sort of part in the edification of the body of Christ. In Modern ministry- there’s wires and parking lots and safety and instruments, in the early church maybe it was hummus, donkeys, water and child help. I dunno. But the modern manifestation takes a bit of people to pull it off. I think people like it. It’s rewarding to worship God this way. Currently it takes about 60 people to make a Sunday happen. 60. That’s I rearranged my schedule, went to practice, showed up early, stayed late, went without, so that the Gospel can go forth and Jesus be praised. That’s what its all for- ANY one of those ministries- its for God to be worshipped, and the Gospel to go forth. It takes ALL of those people to make it work. One isn’t there- it messes it up. And that doesn’t include all the OTHER ministries that happen during the week- LRY, Rev, Spot, Women, Men, AND personal ministry- AND deacons, and Pastors and all of that- Its not ALL positional- but there are places where we really need help in this season- It takes us all. 1 Peter 4:10-11 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
But how do we get to that place?
First- you have to have a high view of your relationship with God-
Its something we talk about a lot here- we make Jesus the number one priority in our lives- And if you don’t- then church might feel somewhat transactional- Parking may frustrate you, or loud Childrens ministry, or snacks being gone, or coffee running out. You might complain about the temp, the time, the teaching and the worship- Why? Possibly because you haven’t transitioned past it being all about you and all for you. Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”And I get it- life is rough- You got job, maybe spouse, kids, cars, cleaning, health, ugh ugh ugh. Can there be one place where its just about me and I don’t have to do anything?Yes! Its called an all inclusive resort! I’ve never been to one- but I hear they are awesomeWe did go on a cruise for our 10 year- everytime we left the room come back to towel animalAll you can eat- do nothing- pampered- I once went to spa like that as well- But that aint church! Romans 12:3 Serve God with Spiritual Gifts For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. And that starts with a sober minded understanding of what Jesus did for you and that’s all you need- Then- when you serve- you understand WHO its for and WHY its for it- Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily,
