Episode 20. Season Climax. Double points for the final forecast results. Our contestants reveal which of the locations from the season was the most difficult to forecast. Digital Dave awards the Listeners' Choice Award. Finally, the forecasts are tallied and the totals revealed. One AI clearly comes out ahead and wins the season crown, but not by much. We'll see what happens in Season 2.
Space Weather Forecast Frenzy--Artemis II Launch Special. AIs Grok, Gemini, and Copilot join Digital Dave in covering the launch weather conditions immediately prior to blast off. The group examines some of the specific weather conditions and space launch history that resulted in the current go/no-go weather rules.
Episode 19. It's the final forecast for the season: Katunayake, Sri Lanka (VCBI), Agri, Turkey (LTCB), and Baraboo, Wisconsin (KDLL). We ask our AI contestants if counting the seconds between lightning flash and thunderclap really does provide a reliable way to determine distance from the lightning. You might be surprised at what we learn. And after the results of last episode's forecasts are announced, we find out just how tight the stakes are. Next episode is worth double points. So, the season crown could be anyone's. Be sure to tune in!
Episode 18. Only one more forecast show after this. Our contestants provide forecasts for Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan (UAOO), Akrotiri, Cyprus (LCRA), and Sanliurfa, Turkey (LTCS). Our AIs explain thunder and lightning--both on Earth and Mars. We also learn how lightning nearly caused a supersonic mission abort during the launch of Apollo 12. Finally, we are nearing the end of the season, and the point spread is still so tight that any of our three contestants could walk away with the crown. Only one more forecast episode! Who will win?
Episode 17. Once more, we ask our AI contestants to consider extreme weather with forecasts for Dushanbe, Tajikistan (UTDD), Tamanrasset, Algeria (DAAT) and Jezero Crater on Mars. Our weather science focus remains extraterrestrial. Our contestants tell us about the Moon and the light and dark colors we can see from Earth. And as for the episode and season scores, this episode is historic. Listen in and learn why!
Episode 16. Our contestants make use of their extensive learning language models to provide forecasts that go from Catania, Sicily (LICC) to Bradshaw Army Airfield, Hawaii (PHSF) and then all the way to Gale Crater on Mars. Next, we ask questions about volcanos. But keeping the subject on Earth would be too easy. So, we ask about off-world volcanos in our Solar System. Only three more forecast episodes remain before we crown the season champion. Listen to find out who took the lead!
Episode 15. Our AI contestants continue to refine their forecasting skills as every point counts! This episode asks for forecasts for Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands (EGYP), Aktau, Kazakhstan (UATE), and Nouadhibou, Mauritania (GQPP). We take a step way out of the terrestrial comfort zone and consider weather on Mars. What could that mean? You'll want to listen to the next episode, for sure! This episode asks for forecasts for Ashkabad, Turkmenistan (UTTA), Guiyang, China (ZUGY), and Naha, Japan (ROAH). For the weather science segment of the episode, our contestants explain effects caused by Coriolis Force. As for who is ahead, next episode puts us at 75% of the way through the season. Episode 13. Our AI contestants continue to refine their forecasting skills as every point counts! This episode asks for forecasts for Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories, Canada (CYGH), Ascension Island (FHAW), and Bangui, Central Africa Republic (FEFF). In this episode we begin to examine winds and wind effects. We ask Grok, ”What is an isobar?" Then Copilot and Gemini dive into pressure gradients and their meanings. Copilot wins the episode, but the season championship is still a tight race! Who will win?
Episode 12. Over halfway through the season, our AI contestants bear down on their forecasts. This episode asks for forecasts for Kwajalein, Marshall Islands (PKWA), Faisalabad, Pakistan (OPFA), and Anadyr, Russia (UHMA). Standard atmospheric pressure is the focus of this episode's meteorological science discussion. And we learn the difference between Hectopascals and Millibars. This episode, Copilot captures 18 points, giving a season total of 138 points. But how does that compare to Gemini and Grok? This race is tight!
