After milder and drier conditions for many places over the last few weeks, a band of squally rain spreading eastwards across the British Isles on Sunday/Monday kicked off a more unsettled and fresher-feeling weather pattern, with further rain forecast for most of the rest of the week.

Heavy showers brought up to 80 mm of rain to parts of East Anglia on Sunday, resulting in above average rainfall for the month so far, but elsewhere much of Britain has had a drier than average September.
