  • Crime Stoppers tip of the week

Law enforcement authorities continue to look for help in connection with a double homicide from almost a year ago. Kankakee County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Trent Bukowski has our Crime Stoppers Tip of the week.  Tips to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and could result in a cash reward 


  • Manteno trustees set levy for fiscal year

The Manteno Village Board last night voted to increase their tax levy for the new fiscal year. During a public hearing prior to the meeting, Trustee Joel Gesky explained the levy.  Trustee Gesky pointed out homeowners in Manteno can have their tax dollars returned to them. During the regular meeting trustees voted unanimously in favor of the new levy


  • Gallery of trees opens Thursday

In another sure sign that Christmas isn't far off, the annual Gallery of Trees opens tomorrow at the Kankakee County Historical Society Museum on South 8th Avenue in Kankakee. Museum Executive Director Veronica Featherston says it's the 47th year for the display.  The museum is open from nine in the morning until seven at night Thursdays through Sundays, but they'll be closed on Christmas Day.


  • Manteno officials concerned over Gotion inaction

During Monday night's Manteno Village Board meeting, Mayor Annette Lamore read trustees a letter she'd recently received from the Village Fire Protection District.  The letter went on to say the plant had yet to establish a promised fully trained and equipped industrial fire brigade, the facilities emergency action plan has yet to be finalized, and sprinkler inspection reports have yet to be filed by the company among other concerns. Trustee Joel Gesky moved the next meeting of the Properties and Recreation committee to Monday night at six and to invite the Fire Chief and Gotion management to the meeting to address the issues.


  • Fire damages garage

Kankakee Township Fire were called out to fight a garage fire east on Route 17 Monday night. According to reports, firefighters were dispatched to the blaze just before 6 Monday night. When they arrived, they could see heavy smoke coming from the garage. Crews had the main fire knocked out within fifteen minutes and completely extinguished within about an hour. No one was injured in the fire. City of Kankakee, Bradley, and Aroma Park Fire departments assisted Kankakee Township fire.


  • Senator Joyce sponsors card drive

40th District State Senator Patrick Joyce continues his annual holiday card drive to spread cheer this holiday season for residents at local long-term care facilities. Senator Joyce is encouraging residents of the 40th District to write handmade or store-bought cards to help bring joy to older adults who may be feeling lonely or isolated during the holidays. Cards can be mailed or delivered now through December 15th to Joyce’s office on South Wall Street in Kankakee. For in-person card deliveries, you have to schedule an appointment with Joyce’s office by calling 708-756-0882 for drop off times and information. Kids are encouraged to participate as well. 


  • Reward offered for information in murder
