As we talk about anxiety in our lives and our kids’ lives, we have to take a look at
the source. I think we can all agree that somehow, some way, all our anxiety is
rooted in fear. We fear something will happen again that will hurt us. We fear
that something will go wrong in the future. We fear we will lose control over a
certain situation or be forced into a response we don’t want.
The prophet Isaiah spoke the words of God to His people many times … words of a protective,
loving Father to His frightened children. Here is one such verse in 41:10 …
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Let’s look at this verse the way we looked at yesterday’s verse.
Why should you not be afraid? Because God—I am—is with you.
Why should you not be discouraged? I am your God.
How, why, can we not be afraid or discouraged? Because God says. Our fear can be
replaced with His courage.
Listen to today’s verse in The Message …
Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you
strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.
I think we should write that first part of the verse down somewhere we can see it
all the time, don’t you? … Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear.
What’s scaring you to death today? What is causing you to panic, whether anyone can
see it or not?
What’s scaring your kids? What creates panic in them?
Remember—God’s presence, His strength, His help, His steady, firm grip is on you … and your
children.
Let’s pray together: “Heavenly Father, I give you my fear, my discouragement, my
panic. Please let me experience Your strength, Your help. Help me to know that
You are holding me and my kids in Your hands. As above, so below.”
