Today is another single verse, but once again, a very important one: Hebrews 4:12 … For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (NLT) In any season of strong personal and spiritual growth, there will always be a connection and correlation to our interaction with God’s Word. Why? Because it is the manual for the Christian life, the guidebook, the map for living, the love letter from our Father.
No other book is called “alive and powerful.” No other book’s words can “cut between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow to expose our innermost thoughts and desires.”
God’s Word can transform and change our minds—literally.
Here’s The Message Bible’s take on this verse … God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.
Thinking back over your seasons of spiritual growth, do you see the connection between your hunger for God’s Word versus the dry seasons?
It really doesn’t matter whether we read a chapter a day or a verse as long as we are taking His Word into our spirits and minds. If you are a bit out of sync on your own reading or study, let us challenge you to figure out a plan to get in and stay in. After all, the Word is how we can grow consistently in Christ.
Let’s pray together: “Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that can do surgery on my heart and my attitude. Help me to have a hunger for what You want to share with me each day. Help me to know You have written me a love letter and want to speak personally to me. As above, so below.”
