“Now What?” Hosted by JR

Weed and Water

Listen Later

We visualize a future where we are all able to live in an equitable, just, inclusive, accessible, better world and no one is left behind.

Welcome back to Now What? Hosted by myself JR - the podcast where we walk side by side into the future, one step, one breath, one connection at a time.

Now What? Hosted by JR is rooted in kindness, encouragement, and a deep commitment to humanity.

Today we are going to take a moment to just sit quietly with our eyes closed.

* Breathe slowly in and out

* Cross your arms over your chest and move your hands slowly down your arms

* Do this 10 times

* Take a deep breathe in and let it all out

* Slowly open your eyes

Step with me into the Thought Garden

Weed and Water - Tending to our thoughts grows Hope for everyone

If we want to build connected, resilient communities, it starts with us and our thoughts.

Our thoughts aren’t just private whispers in our minds they are seeds. They shape how we show up in the world, treat others and how we create or collapse Hope within ourselves and our communities.

In this episode we’re going to do a little gentle gardening. Not out in the dirt although I love that too, but in the quiet soil of our own minds.

We all have weeds

Limiting beliefs

* Thoughts we didn’t choose but somehow absorbed

* Stories that keep looping

* I’m too old to start

* I always mess things up

* People don’t really get me

* What’s the point?

Sometimes these thoughts are quiet they just sort of hum in the background. But like weeds in a garden, they take up space.

They choke out possibility

It’s important not to judge ourselves for having them this isn’t about shame

* It’s about awareness

* About choice

And once we see the weed, we get to ask ourselves

* Do I want to keep feeding this thought?

* Is this belief helping me grow into who I want to become?

Now here’s the magic part

* When we pull a weed, we don’t just leave an empty hole

We plant a seed, water and nurture

* Something new

* Something true

* Something hopeful

* Something alive

Let’s take one example The weed I’m behind everyone else has it figured out. The seed might beI’m right on time for my path.”

Or maybe the weed isI’m not tech-savvy I’ll never figure this AI stuff out.” And the seed could be I’m allowed to be curious and grow at my own pace.”

Do you feel that?

* It’s a shift

* It’s not just about thinking positively

* It’s about watering a belief that aligns with your deeper truth

Your turn

This prompt invites you to gently pull out an unhelpful thought (the weed) and replace it with a nurturing belief (the seed).

It encourages reflection, emotional honesty, and intentional mindset cultivation.

What’s one limiting belief that’s been quietly growing in your mind lately, and what new belief could you plant in its place that would nourish hope, possibility, or connection?

Let it be simple – don't force it. You can even close your eyes right now, take a breath, and let whatever needs to come up, come.

* You might want to journal about it

* Or speak it aloud

* Or text it to a friend

Sometimes naming the weed out loud is enough to loosen its grip.Sometimes sharing the new seed helps it take root.

Why It Matters Communities of Hope are grounded by individuals who tend to their inner landscapes.

When we uproot limiting beliefs and plant new, life affirming ones we become more grounded, resilient, and connected.

This inner work doesn’t just shift our own lives it ripples outward.

If you’re part of a community of Hope, whether that’s a book club, a circle, or just you and a friend walking through change together, share the prompt.

This work is so much richer when we do it in community.

Wrapping up

* Tending our thoughts isn’t a luxury it’s our responsibility

* When we weed and water with intention, we don’t just change ourselves we shift the energy we bring to our families, our work, our communities.

We can build Communities of Hope together

* Every time you pull a weed and plant a seed, you’re choosing to grow a future that feels more alive, more human, and more connected

* If this episode spoke to you, feel free to share it with someone who’s curious about how our mindset impacts the people around us.

* If you feel like sharing, you can leave a comment and let us know what came up for you.

* And if you haven’t already, subscribe and join our community.
