All good lament begins with an honest recognition of what has been lost and the pain that such a loss has caused. All good lament, naming things honestly, allows us to ask God for the thing we really need and trust (with hope) that God will provide it. We tend to gloss over the first part (honesty) which prevents us from having hope even in the midst of our grief.
