That I May Know Him - Steve Dittmar

Week 24 | The Slippery Slope of Sentiment

Listen Later

In this week’s episode, Steve unpacks how Israel was listening to prophets who only spoke good things, but left them in their sin against God. The sentiment I feel for someone or for a group of people can get in the way of my heart hearing clearly what the Lord is saying. My sympathy must never take preeminence over what God is saying about anyone or any situation. When we cannot hear correction from God our Father, we are not in a true relationship of intimacy (being known) with Him. We can embrace popular thought to assuage our souls when God is bringing discipline so that we will come out of darkness into His light. The Word of God brings freedom in the hearing, but it’s in the application amidst the trial/testing that it brings forth perfection of the Word.

It’s not the circumstances restricting our future, it’s our fighting the process of the Lord that resists the way He wants to bring us into our future. And His ways are always for our benefit. If I don’t submit to God in the circumstances, then I won’t have any means to say “No!” to the accusations and condemnation the devil is putting on me through the circumstances. Being able to dine on God’s Word and promises in the face of our enemy is the perfect picture of faith. God is always leading us in triumph.
