As we finish the book of Jeremiah, readers will begin to read portions of Old Testament narrative that sound familiar - the exile of Israel, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the destruction of the temple. Although we know from the previous books of Ezra and Nehemiah that the city and temple later get rebuilt, for now, the Old Testament provides a pause in the narrative to hear Jeremiah lament the destruction of the city of God.
