Truth (Not Deceit) Matthew 5:8,33-37

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”  (Matt. 5:8)

  • Deceit is not just lies, but truth twisted or misused.
  • This is against Christian pious talk that veils sinful intent.
  • Jesus lifts up “pure in heart,” the disciples’ transparency and vulnerability.  Nothing to hide or cover-up.
  • Repentance is the practice of truth-telling.  Sin is uncovered and confessed.
  • God “sees.”
