After a miraculous crossing of the River Jordan in the beginning of Joshua, the book's second half focuses in on their attempt to drive out the Canaanites. Although peace is in Israel for a time, the book of Judges exposes Israel's shortcomings of obedience and its consequences as evil rises throughout the nation and God is slowly forgotten about.
