This hour, Warning: John Dybvig does try to contain himself, but there are a few swear-words used in his piece, so listen to this week's Letter from America at your own risk.
John Dybvig joins Ryan Bradley to take a look at the latest news from America. First up they take a look at Judge Brett Kavanaugh , and the allegations of sexual assault that have come to light prior to his Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing. Dybvig reckons that “you know its bullshit folks, it’s a bullshit hearing” There will be no witnesses and simply the woman, making claims and the judge. This mean’s it’ll come down to “he said , she said” The women making claims wants an FBI investigation, whereas Judge Kavanaugh has not called for one. Then they take a look at Rod Rosenstein- who had a meeting in May of 2017 in which he said maybe he should wear a wire when he speaks with Trump, in order to invoke the 25th amendment. The memorandum stating Rosenstein’s allegations was leaked this week. “We’re firing people like it’s the apprentice”The 25th amendment is when the cabinet and congress agree that the president has gone off his rocker. As Ryan puts it “if they haven’t done it yet then they’re not gonna” And finally Ryan and Dybvig revisit ‘Lock her up” and how Trump continues to push the idea of incarcerating Hillary Clinton. Then, Auckland Art week is coming up, and in light of this Penny Howard joins Ryan Bradley to take a look at her new exhibition. Titled Mana Muse, the exhibition opens at Whitespace in Grey Lynn from September 30th until the 26th October. The artworks focus on identity, and many of her pieces focus on Wahine from her family and their individual stories. A red thread runs through all her paintings which comes from I ngā wā o mua – which is the Maori ideal that we take the past with us into the future. The exhibition focuses largely on four important women from Ms Howard’s life, such as Marama Davidson and Anika Moa. She discusses her influences, her artistic choices and how she doesn’t like being “confined by squares’. Weekend Variety Wireless with Ryan Bradley in for Graeme Hill, 8pm - midnight Saturdays and Sundays, on RadioLIVE and streaming live to the Rova app on Android and iPhone.
