Weekly Reminders and Updates 2/11/22

This week's updates and reminders.

Good morning, Parents!

1. Student attendance is crucial as students are paired up with a partner for their argumentative essay and speech. I understand sometimes students get sick, but if they are out, please let me know. Each day next week, students will be working with their partners to construct their prewrite and further research on their essays.

2. I would love for my students to have the opportunity to mummify chickens to enhance their understanding of ancient Egyptian religion and the science behind natron or what we use today, salt. However, I do need your help with donations. Click on the Sign-Up Genius link on Parent Square to donate. Thank you to the parents who have already donated. I appreciate it.

3. In addition to our weekly Socratic seminars, I will be introducing weekly podcast assignments starting next week. A few benefits of podcasts include cutting down screen time, promotes storytelling and increases listening skills. One study concluded that podcasts stimulate mental imagery more intensely than watching or reading and causes listeners to have to pay more attention. Since people listen to podcasts instead of watching them, it forces listener to use their imagination and build the pictures in their mind. Thus, people who listen to podcasts regularly have a stronger and more vivid imagination.

4. AVID students are starting their college research projects. All work will be done in class, but they may work on it at home if they wish. For any questions about fundraiser for the Disneyland trip, please contact Dawna Gatrost our AVID coordinator.

5. As a reminder I do offer Zoom on Fridays, but please let me know by emailing me or texting me to let me know you plan on showing up online.

6. No school next Friday 2/18 or Monday 2/21

Have a great weekend everybody!
