VAPA Updates
Oct. 21, 2018
Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Monday is a REGULAR DAY. Students must be at school by 8:20 am.
Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios. El lunes es un día regular. Los estudiantes deben estar en la escuela a las ocho y veinte de la mañana.
Thank you to all of our families who came out in such great numbers at our Student-Led Parent Conference night last week. It was wonderful seeing so many parents learning about their student’s progress directly from the students themselves. This is a great time to follow-up and make sure students get caught up in every class as we start to move quickly towards the end of the semester.
Attendance is a priority at VAPA and in LAUSD. It is critical that students go to school every day and to class every period. You can’t play if you don’t go to the game and you can’t learn from your teachers if you are not in class. The goal for every school is to have 100% of their students attend school at least 96 % of the year. Our attendance has been better every month in this school year compared to last school year. Congratulations! As we move forward implementing plans to improve attendance, please be aware that students who are absent may be receiving phone calls from school staff in addition to the automatically sent calls and excessive absences may result in home visits by VAPA or LAUSD staff. Friday marks the 50th Day of School this year. In order to maintain 96% attendance, students must miss no more than 1 day of school every 25 days. All students who have 2 or less absences as of Friday have met this goal!
Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball Team who are in the Division 2 play-offs hosting Chavez High School this Tuesday at Legacy at 7 pm. Congrats to all of our Fall sports who are ending their regular seasons and many proceeding to play-offs including Girls Tennis, Cross Country, Girls Golf, and Football. Join us for our last football game in the regular season this Friday at Legacy against Southeast High School.
We are now in the last few weeks of the Zone of Choice Enrollment Period with the first application window closing November 8, 2018. If you know of any families of 8th grade students, especially those that live in the South Gate and Bell area, please refer them to us so we can let them know all we have to offer. We will continue to offer school tours every Wednesday and Friday as requested.
Please go to our website and Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter linked on the site at www.vapalegacy.com for more information and updates including a daily live stream of our morning announcements and several informational videos.
That’s it for now. I'll see you at school!
Take Care,
Dr. Edward Trimis, Principal
