December 8th is Bodhi Day: the day during when Siddhartha Gautama (the historical Buddha) realized Enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree at Bodh Gaya at age 35. This date is known as "Nirvana Day" and marks the beginning of his 45 years of teaching the Dharma to the masses.
