Went with hardware this time around. Vermona drm1 on drum duties, the pad is a crazy casio cz5000 patch, and the bass is my mustang played through an envelope filter. I’d like to re-do the bass eventually, I feel like it sounds a bit too thin.  Also have a guitar drenched in spring reverb doing accents for the bass line

Last week's track was fun but upon a later listen, a total mess. So I wanted to try to simplify a bit. Found a neat guitar loop sample on Splice reminiscent of a track from Jon Brion's from the movie 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. I coupled that with some snippets of drum samples and some vocals. Added a a fun synth bassline. Bunch of random little producer tricks and stuff as well.

* Bass from Ableton bass and Wavetable

* Gullfoss and Ozone for mastering

* Ample use of Transit, Transit 2 plugins

Currently rewatching Stranger Things, maybe this was a little bit inspired by that.

I wasn’t even planning to bring anything this week, but I just couldn’t resist sending something.

I’m away on holiday with my family, but somehow I managed to find a bit of time tonight to try and make something. I only started at around 10:30 PM, so I had very little time. On this laptop I basically have nothing installed — just Logic Pro X 11.2.2 with the stock plugins and Apple Loops, plus FabFilterand Pigments, which I quickly installed.

Still, I managed to come up with something I actually find pretty interesting, and I’m definitely coming back to this one later — that’s for sure.

I really like the groove: it has this strong hybrid feel, with some Arabic influences and a very new-generation kind of vocal sound.

As for the structure… it’s basically what I managed to put together in the time I had. I’m not completely happy with it yet, and the mix is still quite far from where I wanted it to be, but the pressure of finishing in time didn’t leave much room for anything else.

At this exact moment, there are literally 3 minutes left and I’m still here fighting to accept all of this as it is and just let it go. 😂

But hey — may lack of time never become an excuse not to make music.
