I am a self-taught artist who started painting after my mother passed away in 2005. I was so distraught over her death that I needed to find a way to channel my grief. So I purchased a canvas and paint and started to create my feelings on canvas. It was very therapeutic for me. However, prior to this I was always involved in the arts. I gave numerous art exhibits showcasing the works of nationally renowned artists at various venues in the state ofDelaware. I also owned an art gallery that I opened with my husband in the late 90's..This was during the evolution of African American art in this era. Even though I come from a corporate background (having retired from JPMorgan Chase in 2019).
I've always been extremely fascinated by the visual arts.I just didn't realize how much I would come to depend on it as a way to channel my grief until my husband passed away six months ago. His death caused insurmountable pain and even though I'm still mourning his passing just being able to ease my pain a little with the stroke of a paint brush kind of puts me in a place of peace.
