Born in England in 1911 Hardwicke Knight lived in Dunedin from 1957 – 2008. Amongst his vast travels he told the story of having been the official photographer on a Soviet Russian Expedition up Mount Ararat in 1936. On that expedition he claimed not only had they found Noah’s Ark. He had souvenired a piece of its timber! And in 1967 he would join an expedition by Americans Tim LaHaye and John Morris to re-locate the site.

Join me as I recount the seedy world of New Zealand Strip Clubs in the late 1970’s. Specifically those owned by Rainton Hastie. The godfather of Striptease in N.Z. His flagship Pink Pussycat Clubs operated in both Auckland & Christchurch at one point. The N.Z Polices laughable attempts to close his shows down. The resulting court cases bringing similar amusement.

This is the true disturbing - yet bloody funny - story from 1999. In which a Kiwi stapled his penis onto a wooden crucifix in a Christchurch Pub Promo. Thomas Henry’s winning performance in Trader McKendrys Pub Promo dubbed ‘How Far Would You Go?’ Was extreme and at the same time highly amusing. So extreme & legendary. Hendry was later given a Darwin Award without having to die in the process.

Kiwi perspective to a now forgotten friendly fire incident in WW2. Sinking of the Italian vessel ‘Nino Bixio’ in the Mediterranean August 1942, by British submarine ‘Turbulent’. The ‘Nino Bixio’ and her sister ship Sestriere were  packed with over 6,000 Allied prisoners of war from the North African Campaign. The attack by the Turbulent upon the Nino Bixio resulted in the deaths of 336 Allied prisoners. New Zealand (2nd Division) death toll being 117.  

Were those deaths preventable? Is it possible to proportion blame? Let’s look at this from all angles. 

Footnote: If you had a relative on board either the ‘Nino Bixio’ or ‘Sestriere’ on this ill-fated journey. We’d love to hear from you in the YT comments section. This after-all was a misadventure that affected Australians, British, Free French South Africans and Indians troops. Trapped below. Or who took their chances in the waters. Weren’t rescued in time.

The well-travelled Terry was a complicated eccentric character. That had his supporters. An avid socialist. Supporter of Maori having their own homelands. As well as a rabid racist and anti-Semite.
