Weird History: Scrofula & The King's Touch

Listen Later

Scrofula, much like tuberculosis, has been a very common disease throughout much of human history. From the 1000s-1700s one of the many cures for it was to see the King or Queen to receive their Royal blessings upon you. They would touch you, say prayers for you, give you a memento and say you're cured. Or were you? Join us for some medical quackery as we discuss this disease, some of the old ways to cure it, and the staggering numbers of people with it who spent hours in line just to see their Monarch.
