It's not unusual for one country to gift an animal to another as a sign of diplomacy. It is weird, however, when the animal is so strange and foreign that no one has seen one before. This is the tale of the journey of a giraffe, gifted to the King of France in 1826 and the mad, mad craze she stirred.
