Welcome Freedom From Blushing

Listen Later

Blushing is the physical reddening of a person’s face, and perhaps neck due to emotional causes. Usually involuntary, it is triggered by emotional stress, embarrassment, anger, self-attention, shame, guilt, shyness, modesty or sexual and romantic thoughts.

Social anxiety can cause severe blushing for people who suffer from irrational fears or phobias. Likewise, some people have told me they can feel a blush coming even before other people see it. In other words, they feed the blush.

Blushing is the reddening of the cheeks (because it has more blood vessels than other skin areas. These capillaries are also wider in diameter and nearer the surface on the face) and forehead brought about by increased capillary blood flow in the skin. Sometimes it extends to the ears, neck and upper chest.

Everyone will blush from time to time because it is a natural emotional response linked to the ‘flight or fight’ survival reaction. Can learn to limit or control it by controlling the emotions that cause it.
