Jesus had told His followers that they were to be witnesses of Him in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the outpost areas of the earth. Nearly seven full years after Jesus returned to Heaven, there was very little intentional effort by those early Christians to reach people outside of Judea. Only when some Christians fled to Antioch from persecution did the Jerusalem church begin to take on the proactive mission of Jesus with precision and power. Antioch serves as a timeless blueprint for what Jesus expects His people to become, and how He desires them to serve together for His glory. It is in the Church of Antioch that we witness relational community, cooperative ministry, and the beautiful advance of the transformational Church. Antioch exemplifies what any and all churches can become if they make Christ and His mission their highest priority. It is time for all churches to deeply consider a return to this model.
