Hello outdoors junkies, anglers, campers, nature enthusiasts and advocates for a better, cleaner and cooler world, welcome to the Conservationist! I'm thrilled to be your host on this journey through the latest and most pressing stories, breaking news in the realm of conservation and public lands. In a world where our forests and rivers delicate balance is constantly under threat, staying informed about the challenges and triumphs in conservation has never been more crucial.
I'm Gary Ananian, and I've dedicated the last 10 years of my life to exploring and understanding the intricate web of life that surrounds us. I’m the founder of two non-profit groups called Kern River Conservancy and Southern Sierra Conservancy. Both are located in the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California’s Central Valley. We do conservation work on the Kern River, Tule River and Kaweah River. One of these days I'll put out an episode about how I started Kern River Conservancy once I get the swing of things on podcasting.
What to expect on this podcast:
This podcast is a show where we talk about important issues such as responsible and irresponsible recreation, impacts of ecotourism, which sometimes result in access restrictions and closures. We look at how we can find avenues of progress to work with our partner agencies and outdoor community to come up with solutions of keeping access open and equitable. We’ll also talk about policy and upcoming legislation that can be impacting or benefiting access to public lands. We’ll chat about outdoor news, outfitters, wildfires, trash and gear. We’ll talk about what you like and what you hate about going outdoors. You can say this will be like the TMZ of the outdoors.
