Earlier this year Wellington Mayor Justin Lester announced a half million dollar boost for the so-called Creative Capital’s art scene. It may have something to do with the closure of multiple venues – including the Town Hall due to proposed earthquake strengthening, as well as competing with other city’s growing investment in the arts. Wellingtonians clearly see being an artistic upstart as their unique selling point. So what does that actually mean and what is council doing to keep Wellington out in front?
