  • We Get What We Settle For
People Pleasing. Putting everyone’s needs before your own. Saying yes out of guilt or obligation or pressure. Settling for less due to fear, lack of confidence, or for others needs. I’m guilty of all of this. And because I’ve lost the life I had, and there’s a new one being created - I’m acutely aware of how my mind is working to talk me into jobs, places to live, environments, friendships and more as a way to make something happen and just settle, because “it’s better than nothing “. No more. I didn’t lose it all to rebuild based on fear, lack, and everyone’s needs. If you struggle with this, listen for a short but sweet pep talk!

  • Limbic Retraining Can Help Heal You
In this episode, I provide a basic explanation of how limbic retraining is at least 50% of your healing toolbox when you suffer from toxic mold exposure, detox, and resulting Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). It was pioneered by Annie Hopper in a practice she developed called DNRS (Dynamic Neural Retraining System). My doctor who correctly diagnosed me on Oct 2021 said that limbic retraining will be just as important to healing as meds, supplements, binders, nutrition, exercise and other detox treatments. While Annie Hopped is the first to develop a practice that has helped thousands with chronic illness, there are many to choose from today that can help one heal. To learn more about DNRS and Annie’s story, please visit her website https://retrainingthebrain.com

  • Wait, YOU are on a Carnivore Diet?

Yes, as a yoga instructor and practitioner with a very "healthy" lifestyle, I've been driven to a carnivore diet not by choice but by necessity. Due to toxic mold exposure for over 7.5 years, which was hidden in my very expensive rental in Marin County, CA, I developed mast cell activation which is when the immune system goes into overdrive. Inhaling mycotoxins (mold spores) for many years lead to mold colonizing my microbiome (gut), which has created a leaky gut and lead to a chronic illness response. Leaky gut basically sets you up for food intolerances that seem inconceivable and strange. It's because the barrier in your microbiome has been compromised, allowing food particles, bacteria and other toxins into the bloodstream. The immune system sees this as a "threat" and creates a reaction. Over time, due to toxic mold exposure and 2 bouts of COVID in 2022, food intolerances restricted me to the point of only being able to eat grass fed, grass finished organic animal products such as eggs, non aged beef, poultry, pork, fish, dairy, butter, cream as well as a small amount of jasmine rice, blueberries, mango and mold free coffee. It has eliminated all grains, 99% of vegetables + fruit (this includes nuts), all sugar, alcohol, 99% of tea and spices. It narrowed my tolerances so much that I ended up with a carnivore-ish diet as a way to heal my microbiome while detoxing from mold and reducing mast cell activation (calming my immune response).

There is a ton of studies and data on how a carnivore diet benefits people in terms of healing gut issues, depression, anxiety, skin disorders and other inflammatory symptoms. Listen to the full episode to hear more about how I came to the carnivore diet, gut inflammation, leaky gut, the benefits of carnivore, and resources if you're interested in the research.

    • Update: Toxic Mold Exposure + Mast Cell Activation Journey

I was diagnosed with mast cell activation due to toxic mold exposure in October 2021, nearly 3 years after I presented with my first symptom. What started out as migraines (no prior history), morphed into nearly 30 separate symptoms that affected every organ and system in my body.

I spent all of 2019, 2020 and most of 2021 seeing more than 20 different doctors, functional MD's, specialists, and naturopathic doctors - none of whom could figure out what was causing me to go from 100% healthy to totally disabled. Over the course of 3 years, I had 3 MRI exams, every blood draw you could imagine, cat scans, kidney function tests, urinalysis as well as 50 other labs performed by ER doctors, PCPs, neurologists, gynecologists, cardiologists, and migraine "specialists". All my labs looked "normal". Save for the fact that hormones were off, which lead me down the treacherous and ridiculously uninformed path of doctors who were "hormone literate" but actually weren't.

Finally, in October 2021 after listening to more than 200 hours of podcasts where I heard Dr. Neil Nathan, MD speak about mast cell activation and mold illness, I was able to diagnose myself! Testing my home, my body and writing to Dr. Nathan resulted in a correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

As of April 2023, I'm about 40% better. It's taken over a year and a half just to get mast cell response muted enough to go after the mycotoxins from the mold exposure which have colonized my gut (microbiome). At this time, I'm able to slowly, micro dose binders such as betonite clay and eventually, charcoal, Saccharomyces boulardii and welchol. These binders stick to the mycotoxins (which are from inhaling mold spores) and safely help me eliminate from the body. The final step will be anti fungal treatment.

At this time, I'm finally able to:

      1. Walk for 30 minutes

      2. Do gentle yoga

      3. Work part time

      4. Drive myself anywhere

      5. Travel via plane

For those of you who are on a similar journey, please reference these resources for a similar healing process - but also know, we are all unique and will require different treatment.
