A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Yes. The film that started it all and put New Line Cinema on the map. There would be no Lord of the Rings if not for the release of this horror classic. The great writing and directing by Wes Craven and career making performance by Robert Englund as Freddy, made this movie an instant pop culture smash.
Going back and watching it now, it still holds up like the day it came out. Although, it is strange but satisfying to see Freddy as an all out evil character for the only time in the series, one wonders what would have happened if they kept him this way. Perhaps the series would not have been as successful but might have had better sequels other than Part 3.
After Dream Warriors it was all downhill and overexposure.
But for a brief moment in the middle of the eighties this gloved sensation knocked Jason and Michael off of the top of the movie killer mountain, and was a success beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Pun intended.
So lets all gather in the Birdhole and break out the donuts and coffee so we don’t fall asleep during this weeks movie… A Nightmare On Elm Street
