Bondarev, who resigned from his position at the Russian mission to the United Nations in Geneva in May 2022 in protest of the war in Ukraine, told Sky News that rifts over the US peace proposal for Ukraine have exposed deep divisions within Western nations. He stated the Kremlin will be "quite satisfied watching this from a distance" and described the conduct of the US and Europe as "very unprofessional" in this matter. Bondarev has been an outspoken critic of the Russian government since his resignation, urging Western nations to take stronger action to isolate the current Russian leadership.
