West Nile virus confirmed present in mosquito pool sample from Tremonton

The Box Elder Mosquito Abatement District has confirmed the season’s first detection of West Nile virus in a mosquito pool trapped near Rocket Road and 9200 North in Tremonton, according to results from the Utah State Public Health Laboratory. While only one trap has tested positive, officials warn the virus is “very likely” present across the county. They are urging residents to take special precautions, especially during dawn and dusk, the peak mosquito activity periods, by wearing lightweight longsleeved shirts and pants, and applying repellents containing DEET or Picaridin.
